Memorial Ceremony for 7 Royal Air Force Sergeants April 2026

At Walcourt, province of Namur, Belgium, the Lancaster Committee invited the Brussels Branch to the memorial ceremony regarding the seven Royal Air Force sergeants killed in action.

On the night of April 17, 1943, an RAF Lancaster bomber, returning from a bombing mission over Germany, was intercepted by German fighters and shot down.

The aircraft crashed in the Bois de la Rosette forest in Yves-Gomezée. The seven sergeants who were part of the crew perished with their aircraft and still rest at the crash site.

To honor their memory and commemorate their sacrifice for freedom, a monument has been erected near the site of the tragedy. We invite you to join us in paying your respects at this memorial during this commemorative ceremony.

20-30 commemorations per year for our aircrews!

RAFA Belgian Branch contribute to over 20-30 Commemorative Commitments each year, ranging from Armistice Parade with the Belgian King present, to personal tributes and commemorations to RAF aircrews who came down in small villages across Belgium during WWII.  We owe it to them to honour their memory.

Therefore a plea to all RAF and RAFA personnel serving in Belgium, please  glance at our busy events schedule and volunteer to support, you do not have to be a RAFA member.  1 event per person per year would make a huge impact
